[RI CONFIDENCE GRAPH]
The Tampa Bay Rays Confidence Survey
Last week's Rays Confidence Graph results.

Below you will see two polls that ask about your confidence in the Tampa Bay Rays. Please take a moment to answer each question. We will present these same polls every Monday. The results will be presented in graphical form on Wednesday, and will be displayed permanently in the sidebar. The goal of the Confidence Graph is to get a feeling of how Rays fans feel about the team and the franchise and track how that level of confidence changes through time. Thanks!

Raysiverse events of the past week that could impact confidence levels...
  • The Rays are 35-22 and have the best record in the AL, one game ahead of the Red Sox in the AL East and and 5 games ahead of the A's and the Jays in the wild card race.
  • David Price outdueled Pedro Martinez and has yet to allow a run as a pro.
  • Matt Garza had his best start as a Ray and seems to be peaking.
  • 7 members of the Vero Beach D-Rays were named to the FSL All-Star team.
  • Troy Percival went on the DL, Grant Balfour was called up and Ben Zobrist was replaced by Willy Aybar, leaving the Rays without a backup shortstop.
  • Might the Rays go against their MO and draft for need with the top pick in the draft?

Prof -
- would you please list the date of posting. Makes it easier to see which days I may have missed.
- also, did you miss the BP interview with Andy Sonnanstine?
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7572

Regardless of one's view of his value to the Rays, AS's comments are interesting.

- Question, are the Rays becoming boring? For the past couple years I would tell my friends I follow the Devil Rays because no game, regardless of the score, is ever over (remember all those 10 run leads that evaporate?) This year, its just one walk off homer after another. Okay, just kidding.

thanks for the link. i had not seen that.

there is a date at the start of each days worth of posts. it is in a lighter grey, so it doesn't stand out very well and it is not on every post, just the posts that mark the beginning of a new day

Prof: I asked DRG on Sat., but he never answered, so I'll ask you: With Bartlett playing solid at SS where does that leave Brignac in the Rays plan for the future?

from what i have seen about the way the Rays handle prospects, i dont think they have a plan. and that might be a good thing. too many times teams give up on a prospect and then the next week they all of the sudden need a player at the position.

Brignac is not ready yet. His K:BB ratio is still way to high, although he has drawn a few walks recently.

SO i think the Rays are just going to keep going with Brignac as the Durham shortstop and then will make a decision when he forces them to make a decision. Nobody knows how good Brignac's glove and bat will be next spring.

Will the Rays be willing to mess with the chemistry of Bartlett and Aki? That is a tough one. Aki is only signed through next season (team option in '10)

what if they traded Aki this off-season...

Could Brignac play second base? How about move Longoria to second and have Brignac at third. How about move Bartlett to second and Brignac to short. Take a step back defensively at short, but Bartlett might be able to handle the move better.

in other words. lots of options.

the wild card? how about Brignac to right field in '09. His defense is supposedly solid at short, but he is no Bartlett. Right Field might be his ticket to the majors.

Thanks. Sounds like a true "wait-n-see" scenario.

Hypothetically, if Bartlett goes on the DL, does Brignac come up?

You think they'll let Aki get away?

BTW: My man, Gross comes through in the clutch with a walk-off homer (not to mention the 2 run triple)and he still can't get any love... what gives?????

no brignac until september and then only if the Rays are out of the race. Zobrist is the shortstop if Bartlett goes on DL...UNLESS it is a season-ending deal. then? maybe.

Aki? i wouldnt be surprised to see Aki let go. there are other options and i dont think the team has seen much of a difference in marketing to the Asian community that they would have liked.

And i am the one saying trade Hinske and keep Gross. now if that isn't love...
