[DOWN ON THE FARM]
Dan Johnson Adds Yet Another Position To His Resume
Indianapolis 10, Durham 6. Mitch Talbot struck out 6 and allowed 3 runs in 5.2 innings. He gave up 5 hits and 2 walks...Fernando Perez was 4-4 with a walk raising his average to .289 and his OBP to .359...Jonny Gomes and Dan Johnson were each 1-4. Gomes drove in a run while Johnson drove in a pair. While Johnson was a DH yesterday, he did play in the LF on Saturday adding yet another position to his repertoire after playing third last week. Previously Johnson had only played first base and DH in both the majors and minors. This could be in preparation for a September call-up. However, if the Rays do call up Johnson they will have to remove somebody from the 40-man roster.

West Tenn 8, Montgomery 5. Heath Rollins struggled for the first time in 3 double-A starts, giving up 4 runs in 5 innings on 6 hits and 4 walks. He struck out 2...Rashad Eldridge was 3-5 with a 3 RBI and his 5th home run, a solo shot...Gaby Martinez was 2-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

Vero Beach 9, Jupiter 3. Carlos Hernandez continues to pitch well in his comeback attempt in high-A. Yesterday, he pitched 7 shutout innings, striking out 3 and walking none, allowing only 3 hits. In 5 starts, the lefty has allowed only 2 runs on 9 hits and 2 walks in 20.1 innings with 17 Ks.

Columbus 5, Charleston 1 (gm 1). Brian Flores pitched into the 7th inning, allowing only a 3rd inning run. He struck out 4 and walked 4....Reid Fronk was 3-4 with a double, 3 RBI and stole his 16th base. Fronk is hitting .280/.388/.479 for the Catfish.

Charleston 12, Columbus 4 (gm 2). John Baird in just his first start with the Catfish, allowed 10 runs in 3 innings, including 6 in the first.

Vermont 7, Hudson Valley 6.

Princeton 6, Elizabethton 3. Tim Beckham returned after being given a day off and collected 2 singles in 5 at bats, driving in 2. He struck out twice.

Little late checking in here, but Dan Johnson's had 8 starts at left field this year. A nifty sliding catch of his is one of the highlights they show every time he comes to bat. Also 10 starts at 3rd base.
