A Seven Nation Army Can't Hold The Rays Back
As the pennant race heats up, it is time for the Tampa Bay Rays to announce their presence with authority. The Rays need an anthem, and there is no more perfect anthem than "Seven Nation Army" by The White Stripes.
The song is already popular at many European soccer events. Watch the following video and imagine how intimidating the Trop would be with 36,000 fans chanting in unison inside an enclosed dome...
This song also works perfectly with the Rays goal to broaden the appeal of the team outside of the Tampa/St. Pete area. Each of the Seven "Armies" can be representative of different counties/cities that compose the majority of the Rays fan base. There is even a marketing angle here that should entice the team, selling T-shirts and other items identifying which "Army" a fan is a member of.

I like it, but unfortunately I think the Rays will continue to shove "Feel the Heat" down our throat.

I don't know why they don't play Seven Nation Army, Crowd Chant, or Kernkraft 400 more. Peanut Butter Jelly Time gets played longer. Now, I like PB&J Time, but c'mon those songs are so much better for the atmosphere of the game.
Anything 36,000 people can sing by just making an "OHHHHH" sound with the correct pitch at the correct time, is bad ass.
I've liked this song for a while, but it's not tobacco free friendly.

So I'm a sox fan from the boston area, and I gotta tell you, I'm beyond impressed by the season the Rays are having. So i'm not hear to stir the pot, by any stretch. Honeslty, I just wish they were in another division so i could root FOR them, haha. But I have a comment on this one - you mentioned 36k fans at the Trop, but the last story I heard was that the average take was still more like 20k. Are people FINALLY supporting this team?! if they can't get behind a story this good, I don't know what's wrong with your entire area!!
the attendance has been steadily increasing all season. recently the average has probably been in the low 20s.
prior to this season the only sellouts the team has ever had were opening days and 2-3 yankees games.
this season there have been a bunch of sellouts including a midweek contest against the cubs. last year that would have been 15,000 tops.
the Trop will definitely sell out in the post-season and next year i fully expect the Rays to be more towards middle of the pack in attendance ~25K per game.
That's good to hear. A young team like that deserves the attention. I've been saying for a few years "if this team can just....(fill in the blank)...they're gonna be dangerous." Well they've finally got it all put together, and top it off with solid pitching, this is looking A LOT like the early-90s Pirates of Bonilla/Bonds/Drabek/etc. Hopefuly this little grouping won't fall apart as fast as their teams did.

Pathetic. From the defense to the offense it was awful all around.
Taking the cake for most pathetic though was the crowd. This is a team in the midst of a pennant race for the first time in its history and there were empty seats everywhere! I don't care what the announced attendance was since that number is always manipulated; there is no way more than 13K fans were in the trop.
Bay Area baseball fans should be ashamed of themselves.
I live in Indiana and I have been to four games this year. You locals need to get your asses out to the game. I was embarrassed when I saw how empty the stands were. Pathetic.
It was a pretty lame crowd, I agree. And as well as the gus seem to play when there are 30k there, they really seemed flat. Have to wonder if a small part of it is the atmosphere. It's obviously less impactful than Halladay, but still, we aren't giving these guys the support they are going to need to hold on through September. I will likely be there again tonight and I'm hoping that Wednesday is better for people's schedules.

The only song that really inspired me has been "Hells Bells" when Trevor "I've lost my fastball" Hoffman entered games.
