[PLAYOFFS!!]
Congratulations, Tampa Bay Rays Sans Devil (Part 1)

And with today's win, the Rays' magic number is now the same as the number of championships won by Alex Rodriguez.

It is customary for teams that pop the champagne to don some hats and t-shirts to celebrate the occasion. We haven't seen them yet, but we assume the Rays' gear will say "Tampa Bay Rays: 2008 AL Wild Card Champions, At Least".

And does Scott Kazmir get to drink the champagne, even though he is only 13 years old? Considering his performance today, here's hoping they had some Bubbly Apple Cider on ice.

Congrats to all of the Tampa Bay Rays and Stuart Sternberg and everybody else that works for the Tampa Bay Rays.

And Thank you.

Now let's go get that AL East Pennant!

They were all wearing 9=8 hats on the field, which I thought was a nice touch. Longoria on the field with Magrane sounded like he was ready to move on and win the AL East.

But man, I worry about what to do about Percival come playoff time. It's just not working.

OK, I should've left that last bit out and let a great thing be a great thing. I think all these years of living in Boston have infected me with Red Sox Bitter-itis.

the "nice" thing there is it looks like Maddon shares our concerns...Now it is just a matter of figuring out who closes in his absence. Wheeler? I don't trust him. But not sure who i would trust in that situation. Price? Howell? Balfour?

They played Seven Nation Army again tonight during the pitching change from Slowey to Reyes in the fifth. I guess the theme for that song is a pitching change for the other team with ducks on the pond.

I ran into Matt Silverman after the game at a bar in South Tampa, and that was pretty cool. I was showing the pics I took of the celebration to a couple of buddies and Silverman came over to take a look. Seemed like a nice enough guy.

Also, I'm pretty sure the Cowbell Kid is back.

Awesome day, not only do the Rays win to clinch a playoff berth, but Boston loses so they widen the AL East lead.
