[ROCCO BALDELLI]
Rocco Baldelli Close To Signing With Red Sox
Peter Gammons is reporting that the Red Sox are close to signing Rocco Baldelli, with an announcement expected Thursday night.
The Boston Red Sox were close to signing free-agent outfielder Rocco Baldelli on Wednesday night. It is expected to be announced at the Boston Baseball Writers Dinner, where Baldelli will be honored.
The Boston Baseball Writers Dinner is scheduled for Thursday evening. Baldelli will be in attendance to receive the Tony Conigliaro award.

Wow. Just wow. We knew this was certainly possible but man. It is very weird to think of Rocco wearing a Sox uniform. And that is going to be a sad day in April when he is in the lineup against the Rays.

Baldelli is a Rhode Island native, and a New England fan. I'm sure he's happy about playing for a team he watched as a child.

Oh... ::cough cough:: Wait. He was born in '81. Maybe he didn't REALLY enjoy watching them until a little later.

Baldelli and Smoltz huh? I guess when you can afford to flush money down the 'ole crapper, you can afford to take the risk Baldelli and Smoltz present...

I hope Baldelli succeeds, just ot against the Rays, Smoltz on the other hand, I hope he goes all Tony Saunders on the mound, f that guy-

F Rocco. Who gives a flying f about him now? It's not like any of us ever knew the guy. He's an employee, not someone we owe anything to. In fact he owes US! We were the ones to support him, financially and otherwise.

If he joins the Sux, I hope his body implodes. Period.

Well that certainly is something you'd want to say anonymously I guess...

We all hate the Red Sox, but Rocco isn't Cookie Crisp, so unless he walks up to Scott Kazmir on Opening Day and punches him in the face, I can't say I hate Rocco.

He can punch Scott Kazmir if he wants to, cuz I doubt Scotty or Rocco will be inthe opening day lineups for either team...

Baseball is a business.
Although we feel that Rocco owes the Rays organization for standing by him through his injury troubles, he doesn't.
Period.
That's the nature of working on a contracted salary, you get paid whether you worked overtime or hardly at all. Its a risk for the employer and the employee... in this case the employer didn't get the return that they hoped for on their investment, but thats the risk you run everytime you sign a player or a hire a salaried employee.

My only frustration about his contract with us is we had to buy out this year's 6 million for 4 million. It may, in hindsight, be worth 2 million for us not to see him on the roster of a division foe.
