[DOWN ON THE FARM]
Please Don't Draft Posey
Durham 10, Pawtucket 6.

Chattanooga 4, Montgomery 0.

Vero Beach 6, Brevard Co. 2.

Greenville 6, Columbus 3.

NOTES FROM DOWN ON THE FARM
...
  • Desmond Jennings, who had yet to play this season, has been participating in extended spring games and could be activated today or tomorrow. [Biscuits Batter]
  • No surprise here. King David Price makes the weekly installment of Baseball America's "Prospect Hot Sheet". Unfortunately, Glenn Gibson makes the "Who's Not" list. [Baseball America]
After making his much-anticipated debut on May 22, Price came out for his second start and beat a three-time Cy Young Award winner. Martinez praised Price's performance and ability after watching him fan nine guys and allow just two hits. On the season, he is now 2-0, 0.00 in 11 innings with 13 strikeouts, one walk and five hits. At this rate, Price won't be in the Florida State League for long.
  • Might the Rays actually draft a 'nole? Oh god, please no. [ESPN]
  • Baseball America says Tim Beckham is the bestest in the land! Or Pedro Alvarez who comes in at #2. Buster Posey is only #4 on their list. Listen to them. They are smart. [Baseball America]

DRG: 40 games ago I would've said with some certainty that Brignac would most definately get the call up later in the season, but with Bartlett playing to his potential where does Brignac fit into Rays plan now????

I don't think so, I've saw Brignac play in spring a few times and I came away unimpressed with him, plus Bartlett and Aki seem to be building a chemistry, I think if we see Reid it'll be because of injury, or next spring. I think Zobrist might be Maddon's fisrt IF choice if there is an injury.

Agree about Posey...........why would we take someone who'd be an average (at best) pro with the 1st pick?

gimme Alvarez....I certainly wouldn't mind a left-handed Pujols in the lineup by 2010.

Ask your Gators about Posey, they'll tell you he's the real deal. 2 run jack to kill their season today. 9-16 with 2 HR on the year against them. He's done that to everyone he faced this year.

What's the big anti-Posey sentiment for? He was just recently named the Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year.

Do you not believe his game translates to wood bats and professional baseball?

I sense a little anti-FSU bias.

And I'm sick of people who believe the scouts who say that Posey is a 7-8 hitter. In that case, you might as well forget the rest of the college hitters in this years class, they are all bench warmers.
